Todd Hill Farm
is a non-profit riding centre in Oakfield, NS (HRM). Our farm is located on 70 acres of rolling hills, fields, woods, and trails. We are just 15 minutes from Bedford/Sackville and 30 minutes from downtown Halifax.

What's in the Name?

We chose the name Todd Hill Farm out of respect for the original land owners.  Our 70 acres was once part of a much larger parcel of land granted to the Todd family in the mid 1800's.  Charles Todd and his son Abijah Todd cleared the land by hand. In 2005 we purchased the property from the estate of Abijah's son, Lorne Todd.  It was fully forested. When John began clearing the forest and picking rocks in 2005, he found evidence of old foundations, artifacts, and stone fences. We were proud to be able to restore the farm back to it's original beauty!

Our family-run farm offers an inviting, relaxed atmosphere. John and Karen Gillighan are the owners and both work out of the home and on the property full-time. John can usually be found fixing a fence, on his tractor, or dragging the arena. Karen is a certified Level 1 Equine Canada English riding coach.

Our horses are mostly retired show horses and have so much to teach our students. They are not the typical riding school mounts so often found at larger facilities. They have a great life and love their jobs! Every day we select a different horse to have "free horse day" where they get to roam free around the farm.
